Australia-Japan Wagyu History
Australia has long been a primary beef
supplier for Japan. Over time, Australian
ranchers recognized a need to improve
the quality of their beef to satisfy
the demands of the Japanese market. Thus
began a long and complex process
which eventually resulted in Japanese
Wagyu cattle being brought 'Down Under'
to Australia where over time, the
industry has
evolved, expanded and flourished.
For those unfamiliar with Wagyu, you
may have heard of it by its more
well known name, Kobe Beef. Kobe
beef is available at exclusive
restaurants in the U.S., and the menu
price should get any beef producer
interested. A restaurant in Scottsdale,
AZ,
for example, recently offered Kobe
steaks on the menu for $250.
